What is AmKon? A student simulation of one of the oldest democratic institutions in the world. But AmKon is no ordinary educational project! It is one of the most complex simulations in Europe, full of fun and drama. So if you are a high school or college student, come with us to Pilsen in September and spend a week in the shoes of a Congressperson, a presidential cabinet member, a lobbyist or a journalist.

For English-speaking students, we also organise AmCon - Model Congress in English – in April.

AmKon is detailed

Experience more than just the House of Representatives and the Senate! Shift the negotiations in your favour as a cabinet official or lobbyist. Expose political scandals as a journalist! Choose from over 180 unique positions!

AmKon is unique

Given its size and the wide range of roles, AmKon is more realistic and intense than conventional simulations. Getting into character will be a piece of cake thanks to our place of attendance - the city of Pilsen - and its close historical ties to the U.S.

AmKon is educative

You can learn about politics in school, but how about a hands-on experience? And don't worry if you're not too knowledgeable about the U.S. - that's what AmKon is here for!

AmKon connects you with others

You won't be meeting your colleagues solely in the halls and lobbies of our simulated Congress, because participants are housed together in dormitories. And after the Congress sessions end, you can explore the charming city of Pilsen with your new friends!

What roles can I experience?

Congressperson

Congress is the centre of power at AmKon. You’ll draft laws, debate them, and vote on amendments. Behind the scenes, cooperation and alliances with others await. Cabinet officials and lobbyists will try to influence you, while journalists are searching for potential dirt. Will you toe the party line or take the risky path of standing out and making a name for yourself?

House of Representatives

Democrats against Republicans? It’s more much more than that! The House of Representatives is not only a battleground for the parties, but also their individual factions – from the far left to ultra-conservatives. Who knows, you might find allies where you’d least expect it!

Senate

The U.S. is made up of 50 states. Will you succeed in representing yours? It takes great skills – your ability to negotiate and defeat your opponents in debate. The Senate is a battleground for the most experienced and capable. Dare you take them on?

Lobbyist

Members of Congress would like to hold on to their elected positions forever – but they wouldn’t fare well without money and public appearances in the media. And who happens to have access to both? You, the lobbyist! And thus, with a bit of persuasion, scheming and expertise, you’ll easily advance the interests of your corporation, union or NGO.

Cabinet official

The American system is built on checks and balances. Congress may vote on the bills, but you can shape them too. As the president’s extended hand in committees, you’ll draft laws and motivate both lobbyists and Congresspeople to cooperate. After all, they can’t be so sure the president wouldn’t veto the bill, can they?

Journalist

AmKon is huge! Without you, the other participants have no way of knowing what’s going on in the other committees, what the other side is pushing, and where juicy scandals happened. But you are not just a passive observer! Both media houses influence public opinion and therefore proceedings in the entire Congress!

Fox News: Right Wing, Right News

Is anyone speaking the truth in crooked Congress? Do you think the Democrats are a pack of neo-Marxist deep state plotters? Then Fox News is for you! And don’t be afraid to add some colour to the public statements of Democrats and unions – just let the American people know who the real extremists are!

CNN: Left Hook

Want more social justice in America? Do you think the Republicans have become a party of right-wing extremists? Join the CNN! Look out for hot takes and stir the pot to give your viewers a proper drama to watch!
